Baby Shower Games & Activities

Baby Shower Games & Activities

I have a love/hate relationship with games at any type of shower. They seem necessary on some level, but there are a lot that are so stupid (there, I said it). So, when I plan a shower I try to balance things out and vow not to do any that are lame. πŸ™‚ I offer one that is just for fun,  one that is crafty and useful to the mother-to-be and one that is a station where people can participate while they are just mingling.

Here are unique ideas for games/activities I’ve done at baby showers:

– Fabric Aplique  or Stenciled Bibs & Onsies

fabric aplique onesie tutorialThese are simple to make but you can get really creative and fun with them! I love the pictures that are taken each month to show the baby’s growth the first year and these are perfect for that. You can create fabric aplique onesies and bibs for each month (I’ve got a super easy step-by-step tutorial right here) or just create fun designs like pictured above.

One benefit to doing terry cloth bibs is they are one size fits all – which isn’t the case with onsies.

– Hair Accessories

Make good use of your guests crafting skills by having a hair bow making station. You can make a few for an example and print out instructions or just let them go to work making their own creation. Either way, the new baby will be outfitted in adorable headwear! If you have a silhouette or cricut electronic cutting machine – these will be SO easy to do since you can just cut out the 3D flower templates ahead of time and let guests assemble them. If you don’t have one, make a friend that does. πŸ™‚

You can hot glue the flowers/bows on alligator hair clips or put them on a nylon headband.

Baby Shower Games & Crafts

– Create an ABC Book

Last year for my nieces shower I had guests create a page for an ABC quiet book. I made a mini album from chip board and cardstock as my base and covered each page in a patterned paper. Then I printed out images associated with each letter that guests could color and add along with a cardstock letter to the page. If I had been smarter, I would have taken it to be laminated once it was complete so it would last longer. We had a lot of little girls at the shower and they really enjoyed coloring the pages.

Here is a document with all of the images I used: abc book images

– Wishing Tree/Advice for the Parents

Using twigs or small branches from a tree, spray paint them (a cute coordinating color to the party theme) and put them in a large cylinder vase. Then provide 4 x 6 or 3 x 5 note cards for guests to write wishes for the baby or advice to the parents. Guests can secure their notes to the tree with a clothespin or ribbon. Slide them into a photo book for the parents to take home.

Baby Shower Games & Activities

– Who is That Baby?

This takes a little bit of advanced planning but can be really fun! Have guests submit a photo of themselves as an infant prior to the shower. Have the photos on display with numbers associated with each one. Then give each guest a guessing paper and let them write their answers. The guest with the most correct answers wins a prize!

– Guess the Stats!

This is a fun activity to have on display and can pull out the competitive nature in your guests. Have a large chalk board (or some other type of platform) and lots of colorful chalk. Create columns and allow guests to fill in their guesses for the baby’s arrival date, time, weight & length.

– Baby Mad Libs

Give each guest an index card and have them write a question related to the care of a baby. They cannot be yes or no questions. Then have them turn the card over so the question is facing down and hand the card to the person next to them. That person now has to write the answer to their original question (the question they wrote) on the new card. Then have the mommy-to-be read the questions and answers. Let the laughter ensue.

– Celebrity Babies Matching Game

Create a document that shows a photo or list of names for the babies in the left column and the celebrity parents in the right column. Then let guests match the correct babies to their parents. The guest with the most correct matches wins a prize!

– Baby Song Game

Give each player a piece of paper and a pen and as you play a few seconds of each song they have to guess the song title and artist. Then go through and give answers. They get a point for each correct title and each correct artist. The winner gets a prize. It would be fun to create the CD as a favor for each guest to take home.

Here are some songs you can include:

Baby Come Back – Player, Baby I Love Your Way – Peter Frampton, Baby I Need Your Lovin – Four Tops, Don’t Worry Baby – Beach Boys, Having My Baby (You’re Having My Baby)  Paul Anka, I Got You Babe – Sonny & Cher, Sweet Baby James – James Taylor, Always Be My Baby – Mariah Carey, Baby-Baby-Baby – TLC, Baby Baby – Amy Grant, Baby, Come To Me – Denise Austin and James, Ingram, Baby Don’t Forget My Number – Milli Vanilli, Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-a-Lot, Baby Hold on to Me – Eddie Money, Baby Love – Regina, Baby What A Big Surprise – Chicago, Give It To Me Baby – Rick James, Here I am Baby – UB40, I’m Your Baby Tonight – Whitney Houston, Baby Boy – Beyonce, Baby One More Time – Britney Spears, Can’t Get Enough of You Baby – Smashmouth, Hey Baby – No Doubt

Freezer Meal Baby Shower

Freezer Meal Baby Shower - events to CELEBRATE!

Whether you are celebrating a first time mom or someone expecting their second, third, fourth, fifth…you get the idea, every mom knows how valuable the few meals your family or neighbors bring in after you have a baby are. The help is so appreciated, but when they stop, that usually means you’ve got to come up with something to feed your family (they’ll only eat cereal for dinner for so long). So, why not host a Freezer Meal Baby Shower? This would stock up the freezer for the family so the chaos of dinner time and the stress of taking a new baby to the grocery store, can be set aside a few days longer. I think this format would be especially helpful to moms with more than one child since juggling toddlers and a newborn can be extra tricky in the beginning.

Here are three ways you can approach it:

– Have each guest bring an already prepared frozen meal with the printed recipe to share with all of the guests. This lets your guests make a dish they personally love.

– Purchase the supplies and assemble the meals at the shower. Many hands make light work. πŸ™‚

– Hand out an aluminum foil container and printed recipe and ask each guest to bring it already made. This is great for guests who say they “don’t know what to make”. πŸ™‚ Problem solved.

As a fun gift for the family you can give paper products or gift certificates to take-out/delivery restaurants.

My favorite fall freezer meal is this Southwestern Chili. I served it at a baby shower not long ago and it freezes really well. You could serve it for your guests and make some for the expectant mother to take home for later!
