Jake and the Neverland Pirates Party Food

I love trying to come up with themed food for parties. I kept this food really simple since I was trying to appeal to 3 and 4 year olds, but I’ll include other things I thought of that you can use as well.

Jake and the Neverland Pirates Party Food - Events To Celebrate

Keeping with the characters from the show, I did a food item based around each of them.

Here are SCULLY’S CRACKERS and CUBBY’S CHEESE MAPS. I just used a sharpie pen to draw the map details on each string cheese.

I ordered these Plastic Sword Picks to make JAKE’S FRUIT SWORDS, and just added a small bite of cantaloupe, apple and a grape to each one.

IZZY’S FIZZY SEA WATER is some sprite with a small amount of blue food coloring added.

For dessert we let the kids pick out a YO HO HO (Hostess Ho Ho’s) or AHOY THAR MATEYS (Chips Ahoy cookies) to go along with their cupcake.

Are you dying at how cute these JAKE AND THE NEVERLAND PIRATES CUPCAKE WRAPS are? I know, right?! They are just a few dollars from Laura at Party Games Plus. They came as a printable set, then I just cut them out and added them to the cupcakes! It really made a box of cake mix and a jar of frosting look incredible!

See? Simple but fun and themed!

Other food items I came up with that would be fun to use:
ARRRG-tichoke Dip: Artichoke Dip
Canon Balls: Whoppers/Grapes/Gumballs
Catch of the Day: Goldfish crackers/gummy fish
Pirates Brew: Bottled Root beer
Peg Legs: Pretzel sticks or Corn Dogs
Bones: Candy Shaped Bones
Pirate Ships: Hot Dogs (with a sail added)

Brunch Recipes

With Mother’s Day fast approaching I was searching for some brunch recipes to use this weekend and decided I’d share with you some of my favorites. I’ve used a few in the past and plan to use a couple of these this weekend. I’m hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch this Saturday for my Mom (here’s how last year’s brunch turned out) and can’t wait to share this years details with you next week! Stay tuned!

Another HUGE reason I’m on the hunt for recipes is because if I don’t prepare something that can be baked in the oven or put together really easily, I’ll be getting a bowl of cold cereal for my own Mother’s Day breakfast in bed. My husband, bless his heart, is not good in the kitchen – but he mows our lawn like a baseball field grounds keeper. 🙂 Isn’t it great that we all have our talents that we contribute to a marriage?

Mother’s Day Brunch Recipes:

Brunch Recipes - Events To Celebrate

1 – Breakfast Pizza by Cooking with Curls (I’m on board with pizza anything)

2- Bacon Egg Cups by Sugar & Spice Gals (I’m doing a version of these this weekend)

3 – Dole Pineapple Mango Smoothie by Super Healthy Kids (I’m making this with coconut milk rather than regular milk this weekend)

4 – Cinnamon Roll Casserole/Breakfast Casserole by Marci Coombs (this is the one I made last year – YUM!)

5 – Blueberry Croissant Puff by The Girl Who Ate Everything (I seriously need this in my life each week!)

6 – Cheesy Frittata by One Creative Mommy (I love loading in veggies with my eggs and cheese!)

7 – Oatmeal Pancakes by Simplistically Sassy (I want this entire stack of pancakes please!)

8 – Homemade Granola Parfait  by Yummy Healthy Easy (I think this is something my husband could actually assemble on Mother’s Day for me)

9 – Omelette in a Bag by Favorite Family Recipes (kids would LOVE this and you can make several at a time – win, win!)

10 – Bacon Cheddar Breakfast Pie by Coffee With Us 3 (the danger with this one is that I might eat the entire pan)

Jungle Book Party Ideas - Events To Celebrate
The Jungle Book DVD was re-released last week. It was a favorite of mine as a child and I was so excited to introduce it to my daughter. We’ve watched it several times since we bought it and now she toddles around the house singing “bare necessities!”. It’s adorable. We had a party with some friends and ate yummy food, colored fun pictures and watched the movie – dancing along with every song in the movie!

I kept the decorations really simple. I cut green kraft paper (available at many party or school supply stores) into 4″ strips and then cut them into “fringe” and twisted them from the ceiling to the wall to mimic jungle vines. I also hung green streamers and added some cardstock leaves with a bit of tape. I purposely used different colors to bring out the jungle look and feel. It was really easy to do and I think added the perfect touch for the party.

Jungle Book Party Food:

I kept the food really fresh and healthy. I love serving sandwiches and salads as a “build-your-own” bar so people can load up the veggies and toppings just how they like it.

For the main dish I made this Kaa Snake Sandwich. I took two french bread loaves and cut them at a bias, turning them so they curved around and made a slithery snake. We added a cucumber skin tongue, two cucumber skin circles and olive halves for the eyes.

Here is the diagram I followed for cutting each of the loaves. Then I just moved the pieces around until I was happy with the shape.

We also served some fresh tropical fruits: pineapple, mango and grapes with a fluffy fruit dip (1/2 strawberry yogurt, 1/2 whipped topping).

 Jungle Book Party Activities:

I took six Jungle Book Coloring Pages (from here) and created a printable Jungle Book Movie Passport. The kids colored the pictures and then as we watched the show, as they saw that scene in the movie they checked the box on the picture. At the end of the show, they got a prize (a gumball, which incidentally got stuck in one of the kids hair after he got home and his mom had to cut it out – oops!).

They just print in black and white and you fold and staple them together. You can print them out right here: Jungle Book Movie Passport – Events To Celebrate & Jungle Book Movie Passport pg 2 – Events To Celebrate

This party was a hit with just the bare necessities: great food, friends, fun activities and the Jungle Book for a perfect party! For more fun Jungle Themed Party ideas – check out this post.

Cowboy Birthday Party Ideas

Cowboy Birthday Party
November is National Adoption month and specifically, Saturday November 23rd is National Adoption Day. To honor those who are trying to build their families through adoption I am sharing an incredible Cowboy birthday party my friends did for their adopted son on his first birthday! They are working to build their family further through adoption and I hope shining a little spotlight on their family today will send the right people their way.

It doesn’t get any cuter than a little cowboy and they really did this party right! Let’s look at the fun details:

Cowboy Birthday Party Invitations:

I’ve said it several times, you can make an invitation SUPER cute just by adding themed wording in. Even if you don’t have adorable photos on it like they had, it will tell your guests a lot about the party just by the wording you use. So, get creative and have some fun with it!

Cowboy Party Decorations:

Using the adorable prints from their little photo shoot really added a lot to the party space. The cute wanted posters can be done at most print shops, and even some places online.

I also love the sweet and simple name banner done on gingham cardstock.

Cowboy Birthday Party Decor

The adorable centerpieces were made from a Cowboy Boot Planter  and silk flowers with Salted Shell Peanuts  and Salt Water Taffy scattered around.

Cowboy Party Food:

I can’t get over how adorable that Cow Print Pennant Banner is! It really does so much to the food table, and it is less than $3!! The added wagon wheel, galvanized bucket and other details are just the perfect touch!

Cowboy Birthday Party Food Display

Just like with the invitation wording, you can make pretty much any food fit your theme if you get creative and name it according to the theme!

Just look at the creative menu:
Sloppy Beckhams
Frontier Fruit
Cowboy Caviar
Wagon Wheel Pasta
Grazin Greens
Bandana Baked Beans

Cowboy Party Cake:

And, the cake, oh just LOOK AT THAT CAKE!! Incredible right? Here is the ridiculous part – they MADE the cake themselves! Incredible, right?! Its completely adorable. If they didn’t do another decoration and only had that cake sitting in the center of a table, I’d be over the moon about the party just based on that cake. 🙂

Back To School Breakfast

I’ve been a fan of Marci Coombs for a long time now. When she submitted the parties I am going to  feature over the next couple of months, I was ecstatic! She is super creative and  really incorporates the theme she has chosen into every aspect! If you don’t read her blog on a regular basis – you should, and I have a feeling once you see this party you’ll be convinced of that!

School in Arizona (where Marci lives) begins in July, but in most other areas it doesn’t start until late August – early September. That means most of you have got plenty of time to throw something for your school-goers, and these ideas will help you make it a breakfast they won’t forget! Marci hosted this for girls in her church congregation and I can only imagine how much fun they had!

The adorable red and white polka dot table cover is actually WRAPPING PAPER! Genius, right?! To make it even better, she found it in the $1 bin at Michaels. The placemats are 12 x 12 scrapbooking paper from Hobby Lobby and the writting strips are just from the Dollar Store (my favorite store!). The centerpieces were apples, crayons and glue sticks in buckets and a glass jar. Simple and so cute!

Yum! The food looks so great! She served Muffins, Fruit, French Toast Roll Ups and Egg & Hashbrown Casserole.

The decorations throughout the entire breakfast are super cute, but these are a few of my favorite!

The printable banner is from Tom Kat Studio and is available for only $5.50! That get’s you the printable downloads and you can either print them at home or send them to a copy center to be printed on a color printer. Either way, they are darling, perfectly themed and inexpensive!

As the girls arrived they got right to work on this fun “Back to School is Cool Quiz”.

Love her ideas? I knew you would. That’s why you should follow her on Pinterest to be certain you don’t miss a thing!

And, if you’re looking for a great wreath for any season (they’d make a great Christmas gift), check out these that she makes and sells.
