This year, we celebrated my youngest grandson’s birthday in true galactic style—with an epic Star Wars birthday party! From lightsabers to droids and everything in between, it was a celebration filled with imagination, adventure, and so many smiles. But the best part? Hearing him say it was his best birthday ever. If you’re planning a Star Wars birthday party of your own, I’m sharing all the details, ideas, and simple tips that made this one truly out of this world.

A Star Wars Birthday Party to Remember
Honestly, this was the most fun I’ve ever had planning a party! The Star Wars universe has fascinated and delighted three generations of our family, so this party was bound to happen at some point!
Let’s dive into these Star Wars party ideas!
The Force Was Strong With these Star Wars Birthday Party Decorations
We went all out on the decor, transforming the party space into a galaxy far, far away. From hanging Star Wars themed banners to storm trooper balloons, and table setup, every detail helped set the scene. All of these diy decorations were easy and inexpensive, but created a lot of wow factor!
Free printables are a great way to get the Star Wars theme going on for very little effort or cost.
Banners
We found these three super awesome banners, all free printables!

Storm Trooper Balloons

These super simple and very inexpensive balloons were basically everyone’s favorite decoration. To create this fun addition, I tied each one to a washer. The washers were light enough that the balloons could drift around when people whooshed by them, but heavy enough that they couldn’t float upwards. I drew the storm trooper faces on the helium filled balloons with a new Sharpie pen.
I purchased a Star Wars backdrop for photos and a little extra WOW, but it didn’t arrive in time so we had to improvise with a couple of silver plastic tablecloths from the dollar store. It worked great!

Random Star Wars Memes Just For the Laughs
I really like to have fun with decorating (and laugh a lot), so I tend to add humor to my party decor. I found some family-friendly Star Wars memes. My oldest grandson and I thought they were hilarious so we printed them out and taped them up in various locations. As always, they were a hit with kids and adults alike.

Add a Little Star Wars Themed Bathroom Decor
I always like to add something fun to the bathrooms. I’m weird that way, but I just think it’s fun when the party follows you wherever you go, haha. Here I just made this easy “wanted” frame (from poster board) and taped it low enough that it would be at the level the kids were while washing their hands. I also added a few more kid-friendly memes to add humor and fun.

Galactic Grub with Clever Star Wars Food Labels
The food table was not only delicious—it was also full of Star Wars-themed fun. We served kid-friendly favorites like “Padawan Popcorn,” “Yoda Soda,” “Wookie Cookies,” “Emperor Palpatine Pizza,” and “7 Leia Dip,” all labeled with printable Star Wars food cards. It was such a simple way to make the snacks feel extra special and on-theme.
TIE Fighter Treats
These TIE fighter treats were easy to make and a huge hit! To make these DIY treats, my daughter cut large marshmallows in half, dipped it in melted chocolate and then stuck a thin Oreo cookie on either side while the chocolate was still gooey. She let them dry and they were ready in just a few minutes.

Storm Trooper Marshmallows!
I found this adorable idea on catchmyparty.com. I purchased some food coloring pens and my oldest grandson and I made a few dozen of these and scattered them around the buffet table. Like the rest of the themed food, they were a huge hit!

BB8 Cups For Drinking Yoda Soda in Style
I found the free sticker printable and idea for these cups at attagirlsay.com. They were so fun and everyone loved them! We did make Yoda Soda, but I forgot to get a picture of it…whoops! It was homemade lemonade (with homegrown lemons) with natural food coloring added to it. Simple and delicious!

A Battle with Darth Vader (and Photos, Too!)
The birthday boy received a homemade Star Wars Sith Cloak from his mom for a gift…cutest Sith Lord ever! He used the force (one of us hiding to open the sliding door at the right moment) to open the door and walked into a scene from The Empire Strikes Back with Darth Vader (my son-in-law in a LEGIT costume) seated at the head of the table and a voice over of James Earl Jones saying, “We would be honored if you would join us.”
My grandson went into full on battle mode immediately, with the iconic Imperial March playing in the background. It was awesome!

After Darth Vader was vanquished in the epic battle, he briefly came back to life for photos with all the party guests. Apparently the Darth Vader costume is too hot to wear for long so after photos, my son-in-law changed and rejoined the party as himself, haha.
Star Wars Party Games and Activities from Across the Galaxy
The kids stayed active with an Orbeez battle outside and had so much fun!
Once they completed that, they came in for food and dessert. They ended their party activities by destroying the Death Star piñata.
Death Star Piñata

In the weeks leading up to the party, we made this Death Star piñata. Our piñata was a little bit lumpy and not entirely round (whoops!) so we decided to use tissue paper fringe to camouflage our less-than-round piñata. We couldn’t find any dark grey tissue paper so we ended up using this light grey tissue paper which made our Death Star piñata look a little like a soccer ball. But my grandson loved it anyway! It was our first homemade piñata ever. I would love to do a post on making a Death Star piñata someday….and hopefully we’ll have perfected our technique by then!
Bonus: We used the Death Star piñata, along with several completed LEGO Star Wars projects, as a table centerpiece until it was time for the kids to destroy it!
Some Other Star Wars Party Activities include:
- Pin the Lightsaber on Yoda — A Star Wars themed version of the classic party game, Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
- Galactic Escape Room — Fun and trendy activity!
- Star Wars Minute To Win It Games — Minute to Win It games are always very fun, slightly outrageous, and as fun to watch as to participate in.
- Pool Noodle Lightsabers — If you’ve ever had a Star Wars themed party, you’ve probably already seen this ultra fun activity, making lightsabers out of inexpensive pool noodles and various colors of duct tape and electrical tape.
- Jedi Training Academy — Set up an obstacle course with activities along the way for the kids to complete.
- Star Wars Movie Night (or movie day!) — If it’s time to mellow out, you can’t go wrong with one (or more) of the Star Wars movies.
Awesome Lightsabers
This Star Wars party post wouldn’t be complete without telling you about our amazing lightsabers! My husband found these lightsabers several months ago. He was looking for lightsabers that rivaled the very expensive ones at Disneyland. These were 1/3 of the price and did not disappoint! My grandkids love them…and so do all the adults. I highly recommend this company for their high quality lightsabers and their excellent customer service. I asked to partner with them to provide you with a discount code for 10% off: EVENTSTOCELEBRATE
