Easter Sunday is coming up! I love remembering that Christ’s resurrection is the cornerstone of my faith. What an amazing gift! I also enjoy giving Easter baskets filled with little treats and of course, all my love!

When my girls were babies, I delighted in seeing their little faces light up as I helped them open plastic eggs to find yummy treats inside and pull small gifts out of their Easter baskets. We read books (my favorites are the indestructible books!), ate sweet treats and played with stuffed animals. One of my daughter’s was under 6 months old at her first Easter and my other daughter was right at around 6 months old for hers. Whether you have younger or older babies, these Easter basket ideas will work for anyone’s first Easter!

Baby’s first Easter is a special milestone, and while your little one may not fully understand the holiday just yet, it’s a wonderful opportunity to start new Easter traditions and capture precious memories. If you’re wondering what to put in an Easter basket for a 6-month-old, I’ve got you covered with safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate ideas to help encourage those fine motor skills!

While older kids are enjoying an Easter egg hunt and chocolate bunnies, younger babies need some special considerations to create the perfect Easter basket. I’ve included some great options.

Great Easter Basket Ideas for 6-Month-Olds

When choosing basket fillers for your baby’s first Easter basket, focus on sensory-friendly items that encourage exploration and play. Here are some great ideas:

  • Soft Plush Baby Animals – A cuddly stuffed animal makes a sweet keepsake.
  • Teething Toys – Easter-themed teething rings or natural rubber teeters are perfect for little ones who are in the chewing phase. Check out this cute carrot teether!
  • Stacking Cups or Rattles – Simple toys that help develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Musical or Light-Up Toys – A small toy that makes gentle sounds or lights up can be entertaining.
  • Fabric Activity Books – Crinkly pages and soft textures make these books a great choice.
  • Easter-Themed Bibs – Cute and practical for those first bites of solid food.
  • Bath Toys – Bath time is usually a fun time for babies so bath toys make a great addition to baby’s easter basket!
  • Swim Suit – It’s spring time! Water activities are right around the corner so a cute swim suit might be just the right thing to include.
  • Water Bottle For Babies – Now is a great time to introduce their first water bottle and start the habit of drinking water and stying hydrated.
  • Sun Hat – Sun hats are a necessity if you want to enjoy the outdoors this spring and summer.
  • Bubbles – Younger babies might not be able to blow bubbles yet, but all babies will enjoy the wonder of bubbles being blown for them.

Good Baby Foods to Include

At 6 months old, babies are often just starting solids, so you can include some baby food in their Easter basket. Be sure to choose age-appropriate options, such as:

  • Organic Baby Puffs or Yogurt Melts – Easy-to-eat snacks for early eaters, if your baby is at that stage. You can even put these in plastic eggs for a fun surprise
  • Fruit or Veggie Purees – Pouches or jars of stage-one purees in fun spring flavors like carrot, sweet potato, or pear.
  • Soft Teething Wafers – A great option for babies learning to gum food.

Casual Portrait Ideas for Baby’s First Easter

Easter is the perfect time to capture adorable photos of your little one! Wether you go for fancy outfits or casual onesies, here are some simple ways to create beautiful keepsake pictures:

  • Bunny Ears Headband – A bunny ear headband adds a festive touch to baby’s outfit.
  • Easter-Themed Outfit – Look for pastel colors or cute bunny prints
  • Natural Light Photos – Take pictures outside in soft morning or evening light for the best natural glow.
  • Basket Photoshoot – Place baby safely inside a large Easter basket with a blanket for an extra sweet photo idea.

Some Additional Easter Resources

The Easter Story

If you have preschoolers or older children, I found this great resource for how to explain the Easter story to kids of different ages. This is especially fantastic if you want to create an atmosphere where your kids feel free to ask you questions and talk about the true meaning of Easter. Easter baskets and portraits are such fun things to do on Easter, but we don’t want to forget why we celebrate to begin with.

Where Did the Easter Bunny Come From?

Just for fun, I’ll include a resource so you can learn more about the Easter Bunny and how that tradition came about. It’s alway interesting to learn more about how folklore and popular customs begin. While it appears to have roots in ancient pagan festivals, today it’s just a fun way to celebrate with your kids.

A Memorable First Easter

Your baby’s first visit from the Easter Bunny doesn’t have to be complicated—just a few thoughtful items in a basket, some sweet photos, and quality time together make it special. Whether you choose simple keepsakes, practical baby items, or sensory toys, your little one will enjoy the love and attention that comes with celebrating this milestone.
