Why Make Glitter Pumpkins?

They’re seriously such an easy decoration with a lot of WOW factor! You’re going to love this craft!

You can use real pumpkins, faux pumpkins, and even white or green pumpkins. The Dollar Store has all kinds of options this time of year. I love that you can customize them with any color of glitter to match your fall decor.

I used real pumpkins this year as I was looking for some no-carve pumpkin ideas, but I have several from previous years that are made with faux pumpkins that I use over and over again!

supplies needed for completing an easy glitter pumpkin craft: Pumpkins, glue and glitter.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Pumpkins (real or faux from the Dollar Store)
  • Craft paint brush or foam brush
  • Elmer’s glue or Modge Podge
  • Glitter: you can use fine glitter or chunky glitter. Match you glitter color to your Halloween or fall decor!
  • Wax paper or a craft tray to catch excess glitter
  • Damp cloth or paper towels for easy cleanup

Simple Steps to Make Glittered Pumpkins

painting pumpkin with glue for the first step of creating a glitter pumpkin.
  1. Prepare your work area.
Make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area and cover your surface with wax paper or use a craft tray to make cleanup easy.
  2. Apply a coat of glue or Mod Podge.
Use a craft paint brush or foam brush to paint an even layer of glue or Mod Podge over the area of the pumpkin you want to glitter (avoiding the pumpkin stem if desired). Quick tip: if you want to keep the stem of the pumpkin clean, wrap the stem in painter’s tape before you start.
  3. Sprinkle glitter generously.
This is the fun part! Hold your pumpkin over the tray or wax paper and sprinkle glitter all around, rotating the pumpkin as you go to make sure you cover everywhere the glue is. You can pour glitter directly from the container or use a spoon or your hands for more control.
  4. Shake off the extra glitter.
Gently tap the pumpkin to remove extra glitter, then set it aside on the wax paper to dry completely.
  5. Add a second coat if you want more sparkle.
Once it’s dry, you can add another layer of glue or Mod Podge and sprinkle glitter again for an even bolder look.

Tips for Perfect Glitter Pumpkins

  • Choose pumpkins in different sizes and colors to create a more eye-catching display.
  • Mix and match fine glitter and chunky glitter for added dimension.
  • Want a better way to keep your pumpkins clean? Seal them with a light spray of clear acrylic once dry.

You can use white pumpkins with white glitter for a soft, elegant look that easily transitions into Thanksgiving decorations.

If you want to go a step further, try adding glitter to other Dollar Store finds like skulls or gourds. It’s a simple, budget-friendly, and fun way to add sparkle to your home for Halloween.
