Fall Leaf Wreaths:

My friend Heather did these with her preschool. After a nature walk, they each glued their found leaves to a simple paper plate. I want to make one with my daughter so bad so we can hang in in our home!

Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids – Placemats

Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids - DIY Placemats

This year I’ve been doing some fun Thanksgiving crafts for kids with my nieces and nephews. These placemats would also be perfect for a preschool or elementary school classroom project. As I mentioned in my Gumdrop Turkeys post a few days ago, we put one of them at each place setting on Thanksgiving. I thought it would be a lot of fun for the kids to also make a placemat for each person as well. This will give them something helpful and fun to do on Thanksgiving while dinner is being prepared!

Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids – Placemats:

Supplies needed:
– Kraft Paper (Buy Natural Kraft Roll; 36″ x 100 Ft here)
– Glue Sticks (Buy Elmer’s Glue Sticks here)
– Paper Leaves (You could use this EK Tools Large Maple Leaf Paper Punch to punch out your own if you don’t own a Silhouette or Cricut cutting system)
– Markers and/or Crayons (Crayola Washable Markers or Crayola 64 Ct Crayons)

I cut the roll of Kraft paper into placemat size rectangles (about 12″ x 18″) and set out an assortment of cut out leaves (I used my Silhouette Cameo cutter to make mine – if you don’t have one and you love to craft – be sure to add it to your Christmas list!). Then the kids wrote their names in the center, glued the leaves around the border and drew anything else they wanted with the crayons! Thanksgiving Leaf Placemat Craft   DIY Thanksgiving Placemat Craft

They loved doing it and were so excited, they wanted to use them for dinner that night! So they did. We can make more, luckily Thanksgiving is still a few days away. 🙂DIY Thanksgiving Placemats

Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids – Gumdrop Turkeys

Thanksgiving Crafts - Gumdrop Turkeys - eventstocelebrate.net
Each year for Thanksgiving I try to come up with some fun Thanksgiving crafts for the kids while dinner is being prepared. I love to have them in the kitchen to help prepare the food, but it is also nice to have a few additional activities for them to get involved in. These Gumdrop Turkeys have become a tradition over the last 5 years and the kids LOVE making them (and eating them along the way). We have an older child (like 12 or 13) supervise the younger ones while they make these for each place setting at the Thanksgiving dinner table. They love that they are helping out and have a lot of fun personalizing the turkey for each family member. Once we sit down they love to point out which ones they made at the table! It has become a tradition that I hope lasts for decades to come! Here’s how to make them:

Gumdrop Turkey Supplies:
– Large & Small Gumdrops (sold separately)
– Toothpicks

Step 1:
Take 3 full length toothpicks and insert them on an angle into 3 small gumdrops

Step 2:
Insert the full length toothpicks in a tripod pattern into the bottom of a large gumdrop (this will be the body). Then add a 1/2 length toothpick for the head.

Step 3:
Add a small gumdrop to the 1/2 length toothpick to make the Turkey head. Then push four small gumdrops onto four 1/2 length toothpicks to make the feathers.

Step 4:
Push the four feathers into the back of the Turkey body to make the feathers.  Gumdrop Turkeys - Thanksgiving Craft for Kids

Aren’t they cute?!! Whether for a school class craft or as a Thanksgiving Day activity for the little ones while dinner is being prepared – these Gumdrop Turkeys are so fun, easy and inexpensive to make! I’ll be sharing more fun Thanksgiving Crafts for kids as well as other holiday and party ideas on my website in the coming weeks, so please stop over and check them out!
