Has your house caught the FIDGET SPINNER bug yet? They are everywhere and I have to admit, they are pretty fun to play with! My nephew knows how to make a fidget spinner and made some for himself and his siblings. I think building your own fidget toy is a great way to encourage mechanical minds! This fidget spinner pinata would be perfect at a tween birthday party! It is made of common products and only took about 1 hour to make (it may have gone faster if I weren’t stopping to take pictures) and about $5 in supplies (including the oatmeal in the can). If you’ve ever looked at buying a pinata for a party, they can be really pricey! Add to that the cost of the candy and it can break your budget!

If you’re hosting a fidget spinner birthday party, giving a fidget spinner as a party favor is a no brainer! But I really think these glow party supplies work so great with the fidget spinner party theme!

Fidget Spinner Pinata

Fidget Spinner Supplies:

• 42 oz Oatmeal container 
• Yarn
• Thin cardboard (I used a potato chip box)
• Tissue paper
• Cardstock Paper
• Hot Glue Gun
• Scissors

Step 1:

Start by cutting your Oatmeal container into 4 equal segments. Mine weren’t exact, if they had been more precise it would have made it a little easier later on. If you want to double the capacity, use 2 oatmeal containers that are just cut in half to make 4 total segments. 

Step 2:

Thread the yarn through one of the segments and tie in a knot. It will be used to hang the pinata. 

Step 3:

Glue or tape a round fitted cut-out (I used a chip box) to the bottom of each canister. Fill with candy and top with another fitted cardboard cut-out. Glue all 4 segments together at their connection points. 

Step 4:

Take cardboard segments and fill in the sides to help create the rounded shape that is classic to fidget toys. 

Step 5:

Unfold your sheets of tissue paper until it is folded in quarters. Cut in 1″ about 1/4″ apart all along the bottom edge creating a fringe. Cut the fringe off leaving apprximately 1/4″ border on top of the 1″ cuts (so you will end up with a strip of fringe cut tissue paper that is about 1 1/4″ wide). Begin with the pinata laying flat and glue a strip of tissue paper fringe overhanging abut 1/4″. Glue it all the way around. Start the next layer approximately 1/4″ above the first and continue making layers of fringe all the way up to the top of the pinata side. The best part? If your fringe isn’t perfect or your layers aren’t lined up perfectly, it’s okay! It will all get covered up by the next layer! 

Step 6:

Trace the shape of the entire pinata on two sheets of tissue paper and cut out. (I actually did this prior to gluing the fringe on the sides). Glue it to the top of the pinata and one on the bottom. Use a large cup to trace a circle onto black construction paper and cut 3 circles. Use a slightly smaller cup to trace 4 circles on construction paper. 3 light blue and 1 dark blue. Glue all circles to the top surface of the pinata to create the fidget spinner look. 

Ta-Da! You’re all done! 

**Now, my notes about the design. Because the candy is in 4 separate compartments, breaking it was a little more tricky – which isn’t a bad thing for tweens. For my little toddlers, it was a little tricky. The design shown doesn’t hold a ton of candy, so if you have more than 4-5 kids, you’ll want to double the capacity as I explain in the instructions.
