When I was searching for Moana party ideas online I found lots of really incredible parties that gave me inspiration. But I needed to simplify them because my daughter’s birthday is 4 days before Christmas and it is a really busy time for our family! I wanted to find a way to blend the traditional luau birthday party decorations with Moana birthday party decorations. I’m so happy with the results and I think you will be too. This birthday celebration was easy to accomplish and budget friendly.

Balloon garlands are a huge party trend right now. I hadn’t made one before this and really wanted to try it. This one has about 50 balloons in white and various shades of blue. I wanted it to mimic the ocean. I started by inflating the balloons different amounts so I had a variety of sizes.
Then I threaded a long length of fishing line on a needle and tied the far end to a chair. Pushing the needle through the belly button end of the balloon (what do you call that little nubby end of the balloon?) I added balloons one after another pushing them all the way to the end. Once complete, I hung them to the wall using more fishing line and command hooks. I love how it turned out!
Palm leaves and hibiscus flowers were really inexpensive on Amazon, but when they came to me they were crumpled up. I spritzed each flower with water and then flattened them with a cookie sheet overnight. The next morning they were dry and ready for showtime.
Using my hot glue gun I made little arrangements to accent the NUMBER 2 and the food display. The number 2 is just cut from foam board (from the dollar store) and painted with craft paint. I originally painted it peach but it didn’t look right so I took it down while I was setting up and painted it the darker pink.

I purchased an adult size hula skirt and used that as the table skirting. Additionally, I accented the table with cute tropical plates and napkins (I was able to find Moana plates and napkins, but I don’t see those for sale any longer) and a natural color fish net.
Moana Birthday Party Food
To keep the menu simple, I served Pig Cake cupcakes (I use Ree Drummonds recipe) and the Pineapple Coconut Haagen-Dazs ice cream (YUM!). It was tropical and DELICIOUS! I purchased the cupcake toppers for a few dollars on etsy and they coordinated with the cute invitation. Raspberry lemonade served in plastic cups with lids and straws rounded out our party menu.

You could sprinkle a layer of brown sugar in the bowl you rest the ice cream in, to look like sand and place a few seashells around to add a bit more tropical paradise flair.

Moana Birthday Party Favors
How cute are these Kokamora party favor bags?! The kids absolutely loved them! I downloaded the free Kokamora face printables. Start by crumpling up a brown paper lunch bag. Then add whatever your guests would like, such as chocolates, goldfish crackers or seashells to the bag as your party favor. Tie the bag shut with some twine. Then fringe cut the top and add the face to the front of the bag. So cute, so easy!
Leis are also really fun accessories that guests of all ages will enjoy!

Moana Birthday Party Activities
These fun party activities are a fantastic way to keep your guests engaged and having fun:
Watch the Moana or Moana 2 Movie
If you want to keep it mellow, make a plan to watch the Moana movie after the rest of the festivities.
Plan a Treasure Hunt
Give the kids a list of things that you’ve hidden around the house or yard and have them go on a treasure hunt to find all of the items. You can give them written or picture clues that are appropriate for their age.
DIY Moana Necklace
Check out these adorable DIY necklaces at Catch My Party. We didn’t try making these but I think they would be a huge hit!
