What is Shark Week?

Summertime is the perfect opportunity to enjoy sunshine, warm weather, and splashing around in the water. It is ALSO the perfect time to enjoy SHARK WEEK! But what is shark week anyways?

Shark Week is a week long event put on by the Discovery channel where they feature specials all about sharks! This year, Shark Week will run from Sunday July 7th through Saturday the 13th! For any ocean lovers, this is a really cool opportunity to learn about nature, different species of sharks, and aquatic life.

What do these Shark Week Jell-o Cups taste like?

The “berry blue” flavor of Jell-O is fruity. It is often compared to blue raspberry. This flavor combines with the subtle sweetness of honey graham crackers, sugary crystal sprinkles, and blue raspberry gummy sharks to create a lightly sweet snack that is cool and satisfying.

What If I can’t find the pre-made Jell-O cups?

I was lucky to find pre-made blue raspberry jell-o cups, but I know that that isn’t always possible. Thankfully, a lot of stores carry the Berry Blue Jell-O packets that you can use to make the blue gelatin from home.

If you end up using a packet, simply make the Jell-O according to the package instructions. Then instead of pouring the mixture into a large pan or mold, pour it into small, clear plastic cups. This way, you can make your own mini Jell-O cups. While not totally necessary, I recommend using clear containers for the jell-o. This gives it a glassy, see-through quality that resembles ocean water.

Another option you could try is simply pouring the mixed Jell-O liquid into a large pan to create a larger ocean, which could then be decorated with a larger beach area and multiple sharks swimming around in the “water”.

Jell-O Cup Ingredient Substitutes

Berry Blue Jell-O cups – These can be replaced with box mix instant gelatin. Any brand or blue flavor should work. Jell-O provides their “Berry blue” flavor and Sonic has an “Ocean water” flavor.

Graham Cracker Crumbs – You could substitute these with just about any golden cracker or cookie. A few good options include Animal Crackers, Golden Teddy Grahams, or Golden Oreos.

Gummy Sharks – There are a lot of brands that produce gummy sharks. Any of them will work. I just used generic Walmart ones. However, if you can’t find any shark candies, you could always substitute with Swedish Fish.
