Materials for this Burger Craft
Do you ever go to make a recipe or a craft because all you need are “things you already have at home” just to realize that you don’t own any of them? Because I have, and it stinks. So I take that phrase seriously.
And……..I am proud to tell you that this is a craft you can TRULY make with things you already have at home.
All you need to make this fun burger craft is:
- Colored Paper: red, orange, yellow, green, and brown paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Paper plate
How to make a Paper Plate Burger
Step 1: Gather Materials – It’s always nice to lay out your materials before diving into the project, just to make sure that you have everything you need. In this case, that’s colored paper, clue, a paper plate, and scissors!
Step 2: Cut your paper strips – While you don’t have to measure your paper pieces, I chose to measure my cuts just to make sure that the burger layers would fully cover the paper plate. here are the measurements for each piece of paper.
- 3″ orange paper strips x2 – (burger buns)
- 2″ brown paper strip x1 – (burger patty)
- 1 1/4″ red paper strip x1 – (sliced tomatoes)
- 1 1/4″ yellow paper strip x1 – (melted cheese)
- 2 1/4″ green paper strips x2 (and then cut squiggles into it) – (lettuce)
NOTE: You could def add some layers in there for your kiddo’s fav burger toppings. Maybe they want some bacon or avocado. Fries possibly? There’s definitely room to customize. They can add or take away whatever they want!
Step 3: Glue the paper to the back of the plate – Start in the middle with the brown “burger patty” paper and then move out, adding the other toppings in layers to each side. Another option is to have your child glue the colored paper strips to a regular sheet of paper and then attach that to the back of your paper plate.
Step 4: Cut excess paper off of the sides – Once all your colored paper has been arranged and glued to the back of your paper plate, it is time to make it look like an actual hamburger. Using your scissors, cut the excess paper off by tracing the edge of the paper plate. I recommend leaving a little extra all the way around, just to be sure you don’t see the plate at all.
And just like that, you have yourself a paper plate burger!!
Hopefully your craft comes together and looks burger-tastic! Happy crafting!!
