One of my favorite parts of Halloween time is starting fun little traditions that bring people together. A boo basket Halloween activity is such a great way to spread a little Halloween spirit during the month of October. This “You’ve Been Boo’d” activity has become a fun neighborhood tradition that kids and adults both love and look forward to.

This featured image has all three of the free printable from this post: you've been boo'd gift tags, door hangers and instructions. The text overlay says, "Make your own fun halloween 'you've been boo'd' baskets.

How the “You’ve Been Boo’d” Tradition Works

If this is your first boo experience, you are in for so much fun! Here’s how it goes:

  1. Put together a fun boo basket filled with small treats, sweet treats, Halloween stickers, Halloween cookies, and other fun items.
  2. Print these free printables on yardstick and add them to your boo baskets. If your boo basket is meant to be a gift only, you can skip the instructions/explanation, but if you’re trying to get your community or neighborhood involved then be sure to include the instructions so your recipient knows what to do next to keep the game going!
  3. Drop it off secretly (ring the bell and run if you’re brave!) sometime in mid to late October, all the way up until Halloween night.
  4. The boo basket recipient hangs up their door hanger so everyone knows they’ve been booed.
  5. The best part? They now make their own treat baskets to surprise another neighbor. And the tradition spreads all through the neighborhood!

It’s truly the perfect way to bring your street, school, or office together for some Halloween fun.

How to Use “You’ve Been Boo’d” Gift Tags

If you have a lot of Boo-ing to do, such as for a staff and teacher appreciation event, or are making party favors for a group of people, use my “You’ve Been Boo’d” gift tags attached to Halloween decorated gift bags (I buy a bunch of multi-colored or white small gift bags at the dollar store for things like this!). You can also use lunch sacks, Halloween themed plastic cups or little metal buckets. Fill them with whatever Halloween treats, cookies, hot cocoa mix, fall stickers or gift cards you like, and deliver them to spread a little Halloween cheer!

How to Make Cute Soda Can Monsters

If you want to add something a little more elaborate, you can make some of these adorable Soda Can Monsters. I found these adorable mini cans of soda that sparked this idea! If you can’t find any Halloween-themed soda cans, don’t worry! You can still make these, just have the kids draw some monsters on regular paper and tape them around the cans.

  • Halloween themed 8 oz 6 pack (or any 8 oz can of soda)
  • Variety of candy

Soda Can Monster Assembly

These were really fun and simple to make. I started by heating my glue gun and setting out my supplies.

I knew that I would be wrapping a pipe cleaner around the top rim of each can, so I started by attaching the accent pieces to the main pipe cleaner.

As you can see in the photo below, I curled several pipe cleaners around a pencil and then wrapped the end of each around the main pipe cleaner.

Once I wrapped the main pipe cleaner around the rim of the soda can I twisted it tightly in the back to attach it. Then I added pom poms and googly eyes with hot glue to each one. For the feet I glued two TWIX® candy bars to the base. Cute right?!

I followed the same basic steps to create this one. I attached spiraled pipe cleaners to the main pipe cleaner and then wrapped it around the rim of the soda can. Then I added pom poms and wiggly eyes. On this one however, I added LIFESAVERS® to the arms and STARBURST® feet. Yum!

For the A&W soda can I followed the same basic steps. On this one I used orange pipe cleaners to attach to the base going down as the feet curling at the bottom. I used a dot of glue to adhere them to the can.

I think they turned out really cute, don’t you?! Almost too cute to eat/drink…almost. They only took about 15 minutes to create.
