Make these yummy FROZEN COOKIES to accompany your Frozen parties!

We love the movie Frozen! These soft sugar cookies adorned with marshmallow fondant snowflakes are really simple to make and will make a big impact at a Frozen birthday party! The same technique could easily be done on cupcakes or a full size cake.
I’ve always been too scared to try making fondant, but after making it my first time for these delicate snowflakes, I’m not sure why I was so scared! It was simple! I followed the Wilton recipe for the Marshmallow Fondant and did about 1/4 the recipe (it made a ball of fondant about the size of a softball). But if you’re not up for it, most grocery store bakeries sell it by the pound and I’ve even seen it sold premade at craft stores that sell cake supplies.
- Sugar Cookie Recipe (see below)
- Pillsbury Aqua Blue Vanilla Frosting
- Pastry Bag and Large Star Tip
- Marshmallow Fondant
- Granulated Sugar
- Snowflake Fondant Plungers (you can buy them here for less than $3)
Here are a few tips:
– Roll the fondant out to 1/8″ – 1/4″. If it’s too thin the delicate snowflakes will stretch too much.
– When rolling out the fondant, I tend to press harder as I get out to the edges. You want to maintain pressure or even ease up as you near the edges so your fondant has an even thickness.
– The fondant snowflake cutter has a plunger to help remove the snowflake. If you press into the fondant without pressing the plunger to cut the outside, you can then press on the plunger to imprint a snowflake image, lift the plunger and pull up off the cutting surface. Then press the plunger again to release the snowflake onto your plate (sometimes it helps to tap it on the side of the plate). If you don’t want the imprinted snowflake image, just press to cut and plunge onto the plate.
– Place the snowflakes on a plate covered in plastic wrap so you can easily remove them by lifting the plastic wrap and peeling them off.
– Once you’ve cut out as many as you like, tightly wrap the plate in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. If they are cold, they are much easier to handle without the delicate pieces wilting or getting smushed.
– After you’ve frosted your cookies/cupcakes/cake place it in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up the frosting. That way, when you place the snowflakes on top they won’t flatten the ridges in your swirled frosting.
– I sprinkled one plate with granulated sugar to give them a frosted look. I gently tapped each one after sprinkling to help the sprinkled sugar stick.
– I made my snowflakes and sugar cookies about 3 days in advance and kept them wrapped up in my fridge. That made them super quick for the day of the party because all I had to do was frost and decorate! I love make-ahead things when planning a party!
Once you’ve made the sugar cookies and allowed them to cool, simply pipe the frosting on, decorate with fondant snowflakes and sprinkle with additional sugar (to give it a frosted look).

Kathy’s Famous Sugar Cookies
- 2/3 cup Shortening
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 cup Sugar
- Mix this all for 3-5 minutes in a mixer until light and fluffy. Then add:
- 1/3 cup Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 2 1/2 cup Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
Mix well to combine. Roll out and use cookie cutters. Transfer to baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 7-10 minutes.
