Why Play THIS Game?

“Guess the Dress” is a perfect bachelorette or bridal shower game, because it captures girlhood and the emotion that goes into finding THE DRESS!

I mean, let’s be real. I think all girls grow up dreaming of their wedding day. We dream about the special someone that will sweep us off our feet and make us fall madly in love. And we picture everything from the flowers to the wedding ring, and especially, THE WEDDING DRESS!

Shows like “Say Yes to the Dress” make us wonder if we are an A-line dress kind-of-girl or the type to walk out in a ball gown. And that only makes us even more excited for when the day comes to go wedding dress shopping and pick out the dress that will make us feel like the prettiest girl in the world!

And then suddenly, you’re standing there staring at yourself in a big mirror with a beautiful white dress on. You can’t believe that this day has actually come. It’s a crazy moment in which all your hopes and dreams for the future collide with the realization that you’re all grown up.

A girl’s wedding dress can say a lot about them, and so this game is a fun and interactive way to test how well guests know the bride’s style and to let her share her experience finding her bridal gown.

Materials for This Game

Thankfully, this game is a straightforward activity the requires minimal preparation or supplies. To do it at a celebration all you need are:

Pens/Pencils & erasers for all players
A prize for the winner!

My suggestion is to have a few extra of all of these. In the event that someone wants to start over on their design or additional guests show up, it is good to have a few extra print outs. Additionally, pens or pencils can sometimes break or run out or ink. Having extras can be a lifesaver. And, there may be 2 individuals who are very close to the actual design. Consider having more than one prize.

How to Play “Guess the Dress”

Step 1: Pass out a game printable to each of the party attendees.

Step 2: Hand a writing utensil to each individual. Pencils are generally better, since they provide the option to erase. However, pens work as well.

Step 3: Give the group 10-15 minutes to sketch their idea of what the bride’s wedding dress looks like. People are welcome to chat while they draw, but they have to submit a unique design.

Step 4: Have everyone turn in their designs to the bride. Then, give the bride a minute or two to look the designs over.

Step 5: Have the bride select which one of the drawings most resembles her dress for the big day!

NOTE: The bride can choose to share a photo of her dress with the group, or keep an element of surprise by simply sharing the drawn dress that is the most like it. Totally up to her!

Step 6: Gift a prize to the 1-2 dress design submissions that the bride chooses!

Here is a free printable of the “Guess the Dress” bridal shower game. Anyone is able to use it for free. I just ask that you use it properly, by not stealing the design and calling it your own or selling it. The link provides options to print either a full page with one design or 2 smaller ones on a standard 8.5 in by 11 in sheet of paper. It prints in black and white and is ready for use in the game!
