I originally made it for a Sunday family dinner, and it was such a hit that we’ve now had it the last 3-4 weeks!

And the best part is, with variations for both fresh peaches and canned peaches, it is a family favorite that can be enjoyed any time of the year. 🙂

Easy Peach Cobbler Ingredients

Besides the peaches, this recipe is honestly just a combination of household baking ingredients. I love this fact, because it means that if you can get your hands on some ripe peaches, you probably have everything you need to whip up this cozy dessert.

  • Peaches and Syrup – When you can peaches, they are preserved in a delicious syrup that helps sweeten the cobbler. If you use fresh peaches, this syrup can be created with the help of sugar and cinnamon! Either way, your sugary peaches will be the star of the show.
  • Butter – While you can use butter or margarine, I highly suggest using real butter when baking. True butter helps to add a depth of flavor that the margarine can’t while also providing a nice crust and cobbler texture.
  • Flour – Baking flour doesn’t add much flavor to recipes. However, it does help to give the batter structure. Flour works in this recipe to create a cobbler batter that is cakey, moist, and delightful.
  • Sugar – While the peaches naturally have a good amount of sugar in them, the cake needs a little life. Sugar helps to make this treat feel indulgent and satisfying.
  • Baking Powder – Baking powder is used to increase the volume of baked goods and make them lighter/fluffier. By adding this to the cobbler, it helps the cobbler batter expand and cover all the peaches in a warm, gooey blanket.
  • Salt – Salt is a baker’s best friend because it helps enhance the flavors that are already there. It brings out the creaminess of the butter, the tanginess of the peaches, and the sweetness in the sugar!
  • Milk – Milk works as a wet ingredient to develop the cobbler batter and add an additional creaminess to the peach cobbler. So tasty!

Note: Because of the recipe’s simplicity, you can really make the flavors shine by using quality ingredients. I recommend making the investment if you can!

Fresh Peaches Vs. Canned Peaches

There’s the age old debate as to which version of peach cobbler is better: with fresh peaches or canned peaches. And I am not here to tell you which one is correct. I have had both kinds and felt both of them were absolutely amazing!

BUT there are a few things to consider on both sides.

  • Fresh peaches are extra sweet when they are ripe, however, there’s a limited season and unripe peaches can be hard and bitter.
  • Canned peaches are available year round, have a distinct flavor, and often result in a more liquidy cobbler (unless you drain the syrup they are preserved in).

The thing is, both kinds of peaches have their pros AND their cons.

Peach Cobbler Frequently Asked Questions

When is peach season? – Peach season starts as early as May or June and generally extends into September or October. It depends on how quickly the weather warms up for summer and cools down for fall.

What’s the best kind of peaches to use for cobbler? – Both Semi-freestone peaches and Clingstone peaches are great to use in cobbler. Semi-freestones are sweet with a great texture and easy-to-remove pits. These are a particularly great option if you are using fresh peaches. Clingstone peaches have a pit that is harder to remove, but are commonly used in canning. If you are using canned peaches, clingstone is a great kind to work with for cobbler.

Can I substitute with Bisquick or cake mix? – Yes you can. It won’t taste the same or have the exact same texture, but both Bisquick and cake mix can be a time-efficient substitute. Great for using if you have to make peach cobbler quickly.

How to Best Store Your Cobbler

Let’s be real. You probably won’t need this. I hardly ever do! However, should you have leftovers, here is my suggestion for storing it:

Place any leftover peach cobbler in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. If you won’t eat it within a few days, place it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. To unfreeze your cobbler, place it in the fridge for a few hours to thaw and then reheat in the microwave or oven.
