Made with mushrooms, spicy sausage, cream cheese, and bread crumbs, these sausage stuffed mushrooms are a perfect party appetizer!

I love appetizer parties – especially around the holidays. There is so much decadent food and appetizers give you that perfect bite. I love just having a taste of lots of different foods food. These Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms are the perfect bite in my world. They combine the deep earthiness of the mushroom with slightly spicy sausage and the richness of cream cheese. Delicious!

Ingredients for Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms

While there are many reasons to love this recipe, I want to highlight the fact that it only requires 5 ingredients! (really 4!!) A short grocery list that still produces flavorful food? Now that’s a win!

  • Button Mushrooms
  • Spicy Italian Sausage
  • Cream Cheese
  • Panko Bread Crumbs
  • Cayenne Pepper

How to Make this Tasty Appetizer

Step #1 Prep the Mushrooms – Gently clean dirt from mushrooms with a damp cloth. Remove stems from mushrooms and set aside. Arrange mushrooms top side down in a 9 x 13 pan.

Step #2 Cook the Sausage – Brown and crumble ground the spicy Italian sausage in a pan over medium high heat until it is cooked through.

Step #3: Chop up the Mushroom Stems – In a food processor add 1 cup of the mushroom stems and pulse several times to chop. Don’t have one? I use the Cuisinart Food Processor and love it. Christmas is coming – better add it to your list!

Step #4 Blend Together the Filling – Add the ground sausage, bread crumbs and cream cheese and process until combined. Taste the mixture and add cayenne pepper for more heat ½ tsp at a time (this will depend on the type of sausage you purchase and your personal taste).

Step #5 Fill the Mushrooms – Spoon mixture into mushrooms using a small spoon.

Step #6 Bake the Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms – Place the glass container on the middle rack of the oven and bake the mushrooms uncovered at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.

  • 1 food processor/blender
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting Board
  • 1 Sauce Pan
  • 1 glass baking dish 9×13

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. Button Mushrooms
  • 8 oz. Spicy Italian Sausage
  • 4 oz. Cream Cheese
  • 1/3 c. Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper optional

Instructions

  • Gently clean dirt from the mushrooms with a damp cloth. Remove the stem from each mushroom and set aside to use later.
  • Arrange mushrooms top side down in a 9 x 13 pan.
