Christmas Tree Craft (Torn Paper Art)

| | |

Have a little holiday cheer with this simple Christmas tree craft for kids! All you need is paper, glue, and Christmas spirit!!

Christmas has all kinds of iconic symbols. Which ones come to mind for you? When I think of Christmas, I think of things like reindeer, snowman, presents, Santa Clause, elves, candy canes, and the nativity scene. And you know what else? Christmas trees!

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is pulling all the decor out of the attic and decorating the Christmas tree. (I can’t be the only one). So I thought, why not make a craft that allows little kids to decorate their very own Christmas tree?!

With a few household items, your kids can easily make this holiday craft. And I can guarantee it will be a hit! It is doable for kids of all ages, very low cost, and creates minimal mess. With this craft, you can’t help but feel merry and bright!

Materials Needed

All you need for this craft is a free printable, glue, and colored paper to bring this Christmas tree craft to life!

If you have kids, I am 95% positive you have all the items you need to make this craft!

Because let’s be honest. The worst thing is finding a cute craft to do and then realizing you have to make a trip to the store to do it with your kiddos. With all the holiday shopping you are already doing, the last thing you want to do is go out again! So don’t fret. That is not a worry with this one.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. The only materials you need are:

Can you believe it?! It’s a Christmas miracle!

Christmas Tree Craft Instructions

You probably are already loving this craft because of how cute it is, but let me give you some more reasons to love it. First off, there are really only 3 steps! And, I have included pictures of each step. That way, you can show your kids my simple tutorial and then allow them to get to work!

You don’t have to supervise much, it won’t turn your house into a disaster, and it will keep your little ones entertained. That’s a winning craft if I ever heard of one!

Step 1: Print your Christmas Tree Craft Printable

First, click the link here to print off my free Christmas Tree Craft Printable. This will serve as the base for you to build the torn paper Christmas tree.

Step 2: Tear the colored paper into small pieces

Once you have your printable, start tearing small pieces of paper. For my tree, I used green, red, yellow, and brown paper, but you could totally use other ones.

I recommend tearing pieces that are small in size (about a dime or nickel, but not bigger). These tend to be easier to work with.

You can either tear and glue all of one color and then move on to the next section, or you can make a little pile of torn pieces for each color you are using and then glue. I tore and glued it one section at a time, but either way works.

Step 3: Glue all of the little paper pieces down!

Now it is time to put it all together. While you don’t have to do the same order that I did, here is my process! First, I covered the Christmas tree portion with the small green paper pieces. Next, I did the tree on top of the star and the tree trunk at the bottom. After that, I added 2 diagonal stripes of glue and tiny yellow bits to make the Christmas lights. And the final touch was small red ornaments scattered around the tree!

Tips:

  • You do not have to stay in the lines! It can look even more realistic if little bits of green are hanging outside the lines.
  • It might actually help to do the trunk first. Then you can have little green bits hanging over the top edge of it.
  • Cover all the white! Just add paper bits until you can’t see any of the white inside the black outline of the Christmas tree.

And there you have it. An easy and cute Christmas Tree Craft!
