- Candy: Any kind of chocolate, honey, caramel, or peanut butter candy can go amazingly in this recipe. Think things like chocolate chips, Reece’s Pieces, M&M’s, and chocolate covered peanuts.
- Nuts: This recipe comes with cashews already in it, but you could always replace those or add on to them with walnuts, pecans, peanuts, Brazilian nuts, and more!
- Pretzels: The mix includes stick pretzels already, but you could also try adding in the round ones or even peanut butter filled pretzels.
- Other: More items that might taste good in this Chex mix include popcorn, raisins, dried fruit, Cheerios, mini marshmallows, etc.
No matter what, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with this recipe, so don’t be afraid to try mixing and matching!

This is the kind of snack that get’s eaten up at EVERY event it is brought it. It’s that good! So if you have guests you want to impress, add it to your menu along with any of our other tasty appetizers. Some of my favorites include Bacon Cream Cheese Bread Dip , these incredible sausage stuffed mushrooms, or even a simple veggie tray.
Just make sure to have both a sweet and salty element on your menu. With years of party planning, I’ve found that to be a key to success. Everyone wants to enjoy a sweet and savory bite at the party, and if you can deliver on that, you will have happy guests!
Sweet and Salty Chex Mix
Ingredients
- 2 cups Wheat Chex
- 2 cups Chocolate Chex
- 2 cups of Peanut Butter Chex
- 2 cups Mini or Round Oyster Crackers
- 2 cups unsalted whole cashews
- 2 cups pretzel sticks
- 2 cups Frito Lays
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2-3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 275 F. Line sheet pan with silicone baking mat.
- Combine Chex cereals, chips, pretzels, crackers, and nuts in a large bowl.
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt butter.
- Stir honey, vanilla, and salt into melted butter. Stir.
- Pour honey butter mixture over snack mix, and toss to evenly coat.
- Transfer snack mix to prepared baking sheet.
- Spread snack mix out in an even layer.
- Bake for 40 minutes. Stir every 15 minutes.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon together.
- Sprinkle over snack mix, tossing to coat.
- Bake for 10 more minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool before serving. Store in an airtight container.
