Fortnite Birthday Party Ideas
My son is a big fan of the video game Fortnite. As his birthday approached, it seemed like a Fortnite themed birthday party was the perfect fit! Fortnite has been around for several years, so finding lots of cute ideas was easy enough.
What I didn’t expect was how much I would learn about the game myself as I tried to dive into what is popular in the current season and what things are no longer part of the game. I loved the animated conversations I had with my kids about all of the ideas we discussed and it reinforced the idea to me that it is so important to be involved in the things that are important to our kids, even if playing video games is not anywhere on my list of fun things to do.
So, if you are like me and need some simple Fortnite birthday party decorations and themed food ideas, look no further!

Themed Balloon Garland – A balloon garland is one of my favorite party decorations. It is relatively inexpensive for the impact that it makes on a party space. It is simple to make, but it does take a couple of hours. And the best part is that there are so many ways to fit a balloon garland to a theme. There are so many fun combination balloon kits that you really can find just the right one for your party. Here are the ones I looked at! I always string my balloons on a fishing line with a large sewing needle and then use command hooks to attach it in a few places to the wall. For all the smaller clusters of balloons, I use glue dots included in the kit to place them.
Army Netting – Because Fortnite is set outside and is littered with crates, run-down buildings, wood pallets, and army style netting, I borrowed this idea for the army net decoration that I used for the backdrop. It only cost a few dollars and was the perfect thing to add texture and color while also keeping with the theme.
Loot Drop Boxes – Lastly, the Loot Drop Boxes hanging from the dining table chandelier were possibly my sons favorite detail. To make these, I purchased blue gift bags and filled them with floral foam. I printed a blue crate looking label and added a yellow balloon on a stick. Then for the party, I used fishing line to hang them. Because they drop from the sky, I cascaded them at different levels as if they were falling down to the table.
Fortnite Birthday Party Food
Because we were serving a full dinner to guests from the kitchen, I wanted just the desserts on the display table. Here’s what that included:
Fortnite cupcakes: I made chocolate cupcakes with a homemade dulce de leche filling topped with a swirl of purple and blue vanilla buttercream. I might have eaten 3. Nope, I’m not kidding. They were divine! For the cupcake toppers, with the help of my son, I searched for a variety of Fortnite images on the internet and copied and pasted them onto a word document. I used a circle cutter to cut them out and hot glued them to toothpicks to stick into each cupcake.
Med Kit: As you might guess, a Med Kit in Fortnite is a basic white and red first aid kit. These are made from a rice crispy treat wrapped in a red Fruit By The Foot and the medical cross is piped in white frosting. Easy peasy!
Loot Drop Box: I just served extra buttery popcorn in a blue party cup to play off the blue and yellow from the actual Loot Drop Boxes in the game.
Chug Jug: I totally made this up and it actually tasted delicious! I was anticipating that only the kids would drink it but when my husband drank a full cup, I decided to try it and it was really refreshing! I mixed two batches of Blue Raspberry Lemonade Kool Aid with a 2-liter of Lemon-lime soda. It was the perfect color to mimic the drink in the game!
More Food Ideas: Some other fun ideas I’ve seen include
- red Twizzlers as “TNT”
- chocolate coins as “V Bucks”
- mini sliders/burgers as “Durrr Burgers”
- pizza slices as “Uncle Pete’s Pizza”
- grapes as “Grenades”
- hot dogs as “Dynamite Sticks”
and so much more! There are honestly a lot of ways you can incorporate the theme into the food you serve at the party!
Fortnite Activities
Playing the Fortnite Game – I think it goes without saying that if you have a bunch of Fortnite lovers hanging out, that they will probably want to play them game.
Avatar Designing – Fortnite players are distinguished by their player names and avatars! Why not give your guests a piece of paper and allow them to draw their ultimate Fortnite avatar?! Great activity for while you wait for guests to arrive or if you have a bunch of creative kids!
Nerf Gun War – Help your kiddos enjoy “real life” Fortnite by suiting up, selecting a nerf gun, and then going out into the back yard for a full on WAR! This is a great interactive activity for kids of all ages. It allows them to work on teams or individually and practice their shot accuracy, hiding skills, and more IRL (in real life!).
Fortnite Bingo – There are lots of free printable Fortnite Bingo games on the web that you could utilize. It’s just an easy way to entertain a crowd of kids and further theme the party.
A Fortnite party is a fun way to get a deep dive into your kids’ world if they play! Even if you don’t host a party, sit down with them and let them show you all the in’s and out’s of the game!
