Descendants “Rise of Red” Birthday Party
The latest installment in the Disney Descendants line-up is called the “Rise of Red” and my daughter absolutely loves it! We have had it on repeat at our house for the last few months! Both the show and soundtrack playing again and again. It was an easy assumption that she would be so excited about a Descendants “Rise of Red” birthday party this year, and I was so right! We had a great time brainstorming the activities and our guests (11 girls) had so much fun! If you’re on the hunt for easy to duplicate ideas for your own “Rise of Red” party, look no further! I’ll walk you through all of the details.

Descendants “Rise of Red” Birthday Party Decorations
Backdrop
Red is the main character in the movie and her mother is the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. In a nod to the Wonderland tea party, I started with this fabric backdrop. The backdrop has grommets and was easy to hang on the wall with some command hooks. Then I lined all of the edges of it with black and red mylar heart shaped balloons. I just used packing tape to adhere them to the wall. In the center I placed a 40” number 8 balloon with a gold crown mylar balloon.
Food Table
To match the backdrop bottom, I draped the food table with a black and white checkered plastic table cover.
To each end of the food table, I added a red vase filled with black tissue paper & red ostrich feathers. I used floral foam to keep the feather’s upright. I also added a three tiered tray that held the “Rise of Red” time turning pocket watch and a red jeweled crown. This tray was placed next to some gold crown decorations and a bouquet of silk red roses.
Main Table
On the main table (where the girls sat), I placed a black and white checkered table cloth and layered a 3 foot length of fake grass. On either end of this I placed a red vase filled with more feathers and a black heart shaped mylar balloon. Around the centerpieces I placed groupings of oversized face cards and a few acrylic signs that had sayings from the movie on them, “Paint this town RED,” and “I’m a rebel, I’m a menace, I’m a one girl riot!”.
Above the center of the main table, I hung a gold fringe (cut short). Dozens of additional face cards were also hung along the arched entryway to the party space.
Descendants “Rise of Red” Birthday Party Activities
We based the activities at the party around phrases from the movie or the song titles performed in the movie.
Paint this town RED:
The girls each received a 4×4 canvas and mini easel and a plate with red, black and white paint. I had traced a heart on the canvas and let them paint the heart to match the heart patch found on Red’s clothes. It is red and black with a white lightning strike.
Rotten to the Core:
For this activity, the goal is to recreate the Descendants logo with a fake apple and gold vine wrapping. To do this, we took an artificial red apple and wrapped gold chenille stems around the apple. My husband and I demonstrated for the girls to follow. We hot glued the gold in place and then added a gold leaf to the top and bottom. To be honest, some of the girls struggled with this activity, but the end result looked cute.
Rebel at Heart:
I made a pin-the-lightning-strike-on-the-heart game using a white poster board, red and black paper and some printed lightning strikes. This was a super simple, inexpensive and fun game!
Stay True to Your Heart:
Friendship bracelet kits were passed out and the girls had fun stringing their own pattern while listening to the movie soundtrack. I gave them a variety of red and black heart beads.
One Girl Riot:
This was absolutely adorable and my personal favorite part of the party! We simply looked up songs with lyrics from the movie on the YouTube app of our TV and gave the girls microphones hooked to our karaoke machine. They sang and danced to all of the songs and had such a fun time! Because the lyrics were included on the screen, even those who weren’t as familiar with the songs could still participate.
Descendants “Rise of Red” Birthday Party Food
Of course we had to serve the pink Flamingo Feather cupcakes made by Bridget in the movie! I started by making strawberry cupcakes with pink cream cheese frosting and then used this homemade fondant recipe to cut and create my own pink fondant feathers. Next, I placed 5 knives on a ¼ size baking sheet and then added a layer of parchment paper on top of that so that as I placed the fondant feathers on them, they would dry in a wave rather than flat. I then placed them in the freezer until the start of the party so they would stand up on the cupcakes. I could have spent a few dollars on a feather fondant mold, but these turned out just fine.
We also served ice cream with the cupcakes and let the girls customize their own hot cocoa with a few mix-in’s and toppings. It was so easy and the girls loved it!
Whether you’re doing a lowkey Disney Descendants birthday party or want to go over the top, I hope you’ll find these ideas helpful!
